-

LLANELLI will be saying ‘no to racism’ today with a protest in the town centre.

In solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, campaigners will be taking the knee at Spring Gardens from 5.30pm.

It marks more than one month since the first action was taken by the group Stand Up To Racism Llanelli.

Those attending are asked to follow Covid-19 safety measures and wear face masks or coverings and observe social distancing.

They are also requested to stagger their arrival between 5.30pm and 5.45pm.

Organisers said in a statement: “We will be starting to hold a variety of conversations for change as part of the #TakeThe Knee black lives matter solidarity event.

“This week we will be forming socially distanced small groups to begin having conversations for change – we are all part of the movement and it is only right we can begin to collectively contribute to the conversation of change moving forward.”

A spokesman added: “For those who are shielding or prefer to stay at home, you can join in and take the knee for two minutes at 6pm in memory of all those lost to the violence of racism.

“We are also encouraging all those who feel comfortable to do so, to take a photo and send your photos in to us via our email, or message our Facebook page and we will also publish them.”
