WHAT’S THE STORY?

-

I LOVE a good story. I’m inquisitive (very different to being nosy), so I love knowing the background of everything.

I Google the cast mid-movie as I like to know who I’m watching. And I am the same with fashion. I’m not satisfied with taking a brand at face value, I want to know who they are and what they are about.

Adidas isn’t just a catchy name for a trainer brand, Adi Dassler founded the sportswear giant with his brother Rudi Dassler who went onto launch Puma after the brothers had a fallout.

Did you know Nike was the scrappy underdog of the sneaker world before Michael Jordan signed his Air Jordan deal which went on to be the most successful sports endorsement in history?

This is a good one: Lauren isn’t Ralph Lauren’s surname. He changed it aged 16 because his surname saw him bullied as it contained an unfortunate word, I will leave you to look that one up.

For me a brand’s story is part of its charm, proving it is authentic.

WOULD like some white or cream jeans, nothing skinny and I like cropped styles.

ANEXT

has collaborated with ex-Burberry designer LK Markey who is known for her stylish denim. This crop style is lovely and the collaboration is a great way to buy into LF Markey at a lower price.

■ the comfiest dungarees money can buy, have an inspirational story about how they met their tailor Ismail, who owned a small factory in Northern India, paying his staff four times as much as the minimum wage in the country. They have continued to support Ismail not only to pay his staff fairly but by building a new factory so that the staff, who hand-make their garments, work in a safe, clean and airconditioned environment. You can see a picture and read about each of the tailors who make their clothes on their website, which makes receiving your dungarees pretty special.

It’s the people behind the brands that I fall for. Maison Cleo is a mother-daughter duo who handmake all of their blouses at home in Northern France out of remnants and vintage fabrics.

They are selling on Net-a-Porter.com for very little profit to publicise their tiny brand and to help people see brands like theirs exist.

Isn’t that a great story? They say no story lives unless someone wants to listen.

I’m listening. Are you?
