Club seniors are back in the swing
THE seniors at Carmarthen Golf Club are back in action.
After the best part of three months with no play, the club is now open again.
It was a strange introduction, as due to social distancing restrictions players could only play as individuals, unless they were from the same household.
This continued for a few weeks until it changed to two households could play together.
The restrictions have now been relaxed and now fourballers are being allowed.
Andrew Steele and his coworkers have done an excellent job in getting the course back to such a high standard, particularly so considering how dry and hot the months of April and May were.
During this initial period there was not any competitive golf played, however the seniors have now managed two competitions.
The first was a non-qualifying stableford with Peter Williams winning with an excellent score of 40 points off a handicap of seven.
He was followed by Rhodri Davies with 39 points, while the next three players all scored 38 with countback putting Len Davies in third, Peter Collins in fourth and Martin Phillips in fifth.
The second competition was planned to be the first qualifier of the season, but following torrential overnight rain it had to be played on temporary greens.
This did not hinder Peter Collins who scored an incredible 50 points.
In second with a very competitive 42 was John Williams, with Alun Davies beating Cliff Webb into third on countback with 41.
Ray Sinden was fifth on 40. This week the seniors start to play for the trophies up for grabs within their section when they compete for the Bill Naylor Salver.
