Supermarket chain to open second store

-

A SUPERMARKET chain has announced it is opening up a second store in Llanelli – just 1.5 miles away from its existing branch.

The new Lidl unit will be located at Trostre Retail Park after the business, working with developer Arbenigol Limited, exchanged contracts with Carmarthenshire Council.

The new development is part of the supermarket giant’s £1.3bn investment across the UK in 2021 and 2022, and will create around 40 new jobs in the Llanelli area. The new Lidl will include an in-store bakery, customer toilets,

baby-changing facilities and 130 car parking spaces.

Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Paul Hebblethwaite, said: “We are delighted to confirm plans to open our second store for Llanelli and serve even more of the local community our fresh, quality, great-value products.

“We are firmly committed to continuing to develop the local area through investment and job creation.

“The team are very much looking forward to confirming a date for our public consultation when we will outline our plans and get input from those who will directly benefit from the new store.”

The existing Lidl in Llanelli is located on The Avenue.

Last month, that particular store was slapped with a compliance notice by Carmarthenshire Council for ‘displaying non-essential goods for sale’, something which was forbidden at the time due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown in Wales, before recent changes came into effect on Monday.

Lidl also has sites in nearby Cross Hands and recently moved to a larger premises in Carmarthen.
