Residents Associatio­n (PLTRA) Refurbishm­ents to our cabins have been completed and the next PLTRA meeting is on Tuesday, November 23, at 2pm. We are pleased to announce the Christmas lights will be on at Firth Road and Heol Dderwen roundabout this year. We will be holding our annual carol service with the date to be decided. Poppy Appeal: Local poppy co-ordinator Keith Evans has thanked locals for their generous support of the annual appeal. “Customers and staff of CKs and the Workingmen’s Club have been wonderful as always,” he said. Particular thanks go to the Community Council and the Over-50s Club for their group donations.

New Advice Surgery Community councillor Richard Selwood launches his weekly evening advice surgery at Pontyberem Memorial Hall from next Monday between 6 and 7pm. Sinfonia Cymru Afternoon Concert

This Saturday at 3pm sees the return of the Wales National Youth Orchestra to the Memorial Hall. The string ensemble programme features guest soloist/director Timothy Ridout, the British violist and

BBC Radio 3 new generation artist. Works include those of Telemann, Schubert, Battalia, Mozart, Bach and Tabakova. Tickets £5 and £18 can be booked online with Sinfonia Cymru or purchased from the Memorial Hall in person or by phoning 01269 871075.

Over-50s Club: Members gathered at the Memorial Hall on Tuesday, November 9, when the guest speaker was County Councillor Liam Morgan Bowen, who spoke of his activities on behalf of the community, including his proposal to make Carmarthen­shire ‘plastic free’ and the future supply for electric bikes. He reminded the audience of his weekly surgeries in Y Cwtsh, Menter Cwm Gwendraeth, on Fridays between 10am and 3pm.

Chemist times Monday to Friday the trading hours of the local pharmacy are 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.30pm. Inside the store there is a maximum of two customers at any one time.

Library Hours The library in the Memorial Hall operates Mondays 3pm to 7pm and on Thursdays 9.30am to 1.30pm.

There is a free internet service, DVDs and audio books for hire. Inquiries during library times can be made on 01269 870891.

Christmas Tree A Christmas tree will be erected by the shops ready for November 18. We wont be asking people to attend any lights switch on again this year but the tree will go up and be switched on around this time. Swiss Valley Residents Associatio­n hope you enjoy it!

Christmas Fayre will be taking place on Sunday, November 28, in the Community Centre. Various stalls will be there. Please come along between 2pm and 5pm.

The fayre has been arranged by the volunteers of Swiss Valley Community Centre.

Family Centre The manager of Tumble Family Centre, Tracey, says she is delighted to welcome parents, carers and children back to the centre’s ‘home’ in the car park off Heol y Neuadd. In order to adhere to Covid-19 guidelines, group sizes are limited and places on sessions have filled very quickly. Library service You can visit the mobile library in the car park opposite the hall on Tuesdays from 1.45 to 4pm. If that is not convenient, it is in Cross Hands on Mondays from 10am to 1.00 and from 2 until 5pm and on Saturday from 10 am to 1pm. The library in Neuadd Goffa Pontyberem is open on Mondays from 3pm to 7pm and on Thursday from 9.30am to 1.30pm.
