A SPECIAL Christmas charity concert has been organised by Llanelli Town Mayor Councillor Mike Cranham.

It features the Pelenna String Quartet and The Philharmonics at Llanelli Parish Church on Friday at 7pm. Tickets are £7 (free for children), available from the town council offices at The Old Vicarage in Llanelli.

All proceeds go towards the town mayor’s charities – Ty Bryngwyn Hospice and CYCA (Carmarthenshire Youth and Children’s Association).

For tickets contact Mandy Jones, town mayor’s secretary, on 01554 779991.

In other entertainment news, The Snowman will be flying into the Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli, with a special show guaranteed to enchant audience members of all ages on Saturday, December 18 and Sunday, December 19.

The classic animation film will be shown on the big screen with the timeless soundtrack performed live by The Welsh Film Orchestra.

The story will be narrated by west Wales baritone Mark Evans. Mark said: “I couldn’t be more excited to be narrating The Snowman on home turf. After the last 18 months of restrictions, it’s time to pull out the crackers and start walking in the air!”

Two local singers have been chosen to perform the aria made famous by Aled Jones, Walking in the Air.

Megan Wyn Morris, 13, who attends Llandovery College, is the principal chorister, while nine-year-old Ffion Wyn Bickford, from Llangadog Primary School, will perform for one of the shows.

Megan said: “The Snowman is a film I’ve grown up watching so it’s amazing to be part of this live show. Having the opportunity to perform alongside The Welsh Film Orchestra is a dream come true.”
