Rescue a friend for life

- ROBERT DALLING Reporter rob.dalling@walesonline.co.uk

AS THE old adage goes, a dog is for life and not just for Christmas. And as we enter 2022 unwanted canine companions across Wales are hoping for the day they find their forever home.

Rescue centres work tirelessly every day to save and enrich the lives of dogs and other animals in their care, but nothing pleases the owners and volunteers more than the day when they get to rehome their four-legged friends in permanent homes where they can live out their days in happiness with their new owners.

Each pet comes with its own challenges and obstacles born out of their start in life but each present a perfect opportunity to add a valuable member to your family.

Here we’ve profiled just some of the many dogs at Many Tears Animal Rescue Centre in Cefneithin who will be hoping for a better 2022 and getting their very own sofa to hog.

He will need a specific home, ideally a one-person experienced household and a rural location so he can run freely as this is his favourite pastime. He can be mistrustful of people he does not know, hence looking for an experienced home. He is mostly blind and can only see shadows, which can contribute to his mistrustfulness. He is a truly lovable boy when he knows you but his new owners must be understanding of his mistrust. He is a sweetheart but needs time, patience, and understanding. No children.”

Jacko

Breed: Collie

Age: Five

The rescue centre says: “Jacko is a very special collie boy – a long stayer with us and a staff favourite.

Logic

Breed: Beagle

Age: Five

The rescue centre says: “Logic is a happy-go-lucky typical cheeky beagle. He is full of fun and mischief and very people-orientated. A typical beagle and obsessed with food, the easiest way to his heart! He would be better as an only dog as he can be fussy about which dogs he likes but will be a bundle of fun for any lucky family.”

Dennis and Dolly

Breed: Crossbreed

Age: Both aged one

The rescue centre says: “Both are looking for an experienced adultonly home together. They are Romanian rescues and are very fearful and nervous of the world. They are doing so much better and have bonded well with the kennel staff; however, they do need an experienced, understanding home that appreciates they may always carry some fears and will keep their safety as a priority for the rest of their lives.”

Uma

Breed: Cocker spaniel

Age: Four

The rescue centre says: “Uma is a worried girl – she has never been fully socialised with humans so is nervous and tends to keep her distance. She will need a home with no young children and a kind resident dog to show her the ropes of how to be a happy and loved pet. She is very sweet but easily overlooked. She would love a home with someone who has masses of time, love and patience to give to a lovable but nervous girl.”
