JOSH STRUCK BY A FRESH INJURY BLOW

-

JOSH Macleod is facing another spell on the sidelines after injuring his hamstring in his first game of rugby for 11 months.

The combative flanker has been out of the game since injuring his Achilles tendon during Wales training last February.

He was due to make his comeback against Bordeaux and then Cardiff, but both games were called off due to the pandemic.

He eventually made it back on to the field against the Ospreys on Saturday night but the luckless openside lasted just 10 minutes before suffering the latest injury.

“I think he’s got a bit of a hamstring (problem),” said Scarlets head coach

Dwayne Peel.

“I’m really disappointed for him, to be honest with you, gutted for him.

“He’s been excellent in training, really eager to play after so long out but that’s the rugby gods sometimes, unfortunately.

“They seem to be against him. “But we’ll get him right, we’ll be right behind him.

“We don’t know how bad it is but we’ll get that sorted this week.”

Ospreys coach Toby Booth admits he found it hard to believe his team lost Saturday night’s derby against the Scarlets.

The Ospreys went down 22-19 at Parc y Scarlets after failing to grasp a number of clear-cut opportunities during the contest.

Johnny McNicholl’s late try snatched victory for the home team, despite the Ospreys leading for long periods.

Speaking after the defeat, Booth said: “Brutally disappointing, we had enough opportunities to win it twice over.

“We’ve been over the line two, three times and you’ve got to convert and we didn’t and that’s really, really disappointing, especially given the nature of the festive New Year derby against your closest rivals.

“It stings a lot for sure.”

The game also saw an accusation of eye gouging made by Rhys Webb against a Scarlets player.
