Councillor­s retiring Two Pontyberem community councillor­s are not seeking re-election in May. They are councillor­s Keith Evans, Conservati­ve, and Peter Lewis, Labour. Both have thanked colleagues and locals for their help and support over many years.

County council election Two candidates are declared for the Pontyberem County Council seat election on May 5. Plaid Cymru’s Liam Bowen and Labour’s Michael Jones.

Community council elections For the first time in a decade there will be an election for the 12 community council places on May 5. Candidate total 14, comprised of two Independen­ts, four Labour and eight Plaid Cymru. Local voters can use up to 12 votes in the community election. Postal votes are expected to arrive with those qualifying in the next few days.

Rally Club Gwendraeth Valley car rally members, under the chairmansh­ip of Mike Jones, meets each Thursday from 7pm in Pontyberem Rugby Club.

Post Office hours Located in CK’s supermarke­t the Post Office now operates six days a week, Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm, Saturday 9am to 3pm and is closed on Sunday.

Chemist times Monday to Friday trading hours of the local pharmacy are 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.30pm. Inside the store there is a maximum of two customers at any one time.

Library hours The local library in the Memorial Hall operates on Mondays from 3pm to 7pm and on Thursdays from 9.30am to 1.30pm. There is a free internet service, DVDs and audio books for hire. Inquiries during library times can be made to Anja on 01269 870891.

Digital aid Age Cymru Dyfed offers people aged 50-plus hands-on help to introduce and develop the use of digital technology. Through free telephone sessions, often led by Haroun Varden, help is given through tasks enabling older users to be comfortabl­e with digital links. Tumble

Outdoor bowls is back The new season has begun for the Cross Hands and District Community Bowls Club. Outdoor bowls is a game that can be played by people of all ages and abilities. The bowling green will be open to all members from Saturday, April 16. For anyone wishing to try outdoor bowls the first month is free. The annual fee for all new members after the initial month is £40. The club does not charge green fees. For existing members the annual fee is £100. The bowling green is in Cross Hands Park. Swimming success Congratula­tions to Mabli Collyer who competed in the British Swimming Championsh­ips recently. Mabli came second in the Junior Final of the 100 metre breaststro­ke. She was fourth in the Junior Final of the 200 metre breaststro­ke earlier in the week. She was the youngest competitor in both finals. Mabli is a pupil at Ysgol Maes Y Gwendraeth and her parents, Rickie (Maesgwern) and Meinir (Dan y Graig), were brought up in Tumble.

Colts football Tumble Colts Juniors has places for youngsters in Years 6/7/8 who enjoy playing football. Training is free and the club prides itself on providing a ‘safe and fun environmen­t’. Find more informatio­n on the club’s Facebook page.

Llannon Community Council The council’s aim is to improve the quality of life of residents. The election for community councillor­s takes place on May 5. Ten councillor­s will be elected for the Tumble Ward (the villages of Tumble, Llannon, and Cwmmawr). Five councillor­s represent the Cross Hands Ward: As there were only five candidates for these seats, there will be no election and all five are automatica­lly elected. The election for the two seats on the county council for Llannon Ward (covering Cross Hands, Cwmmawr, Llannon and Tumble) also takes place on May 5. Postal votes will be sent out before that. Neuadd y Tymbl Saturday market: The hall will be hosting a monthly Saturday market with stalls for local traders. Please contact the clerk if interested. Mobile library The county mobile library is available in the car park opposite the hall on Tuesdays from 1.45-4pm. You can request any item available in any of the public libraries in Carmarthen­shire free either through the online catalogue or ask the mobile library staff. For those who may not be able to visit the mobile or other library, the book swap shelves will be available in the old library in the hall again soon. You may bring a book and swap it for another or just borrow a book and bring it back.
