Young Otters bag cup glory

-

NARBERTH Under-18s claimed the Griffiths Cup after defeating Crymych 18-14 in a high-quality final.

A large crowd were entertained by running rugby and ferocious forward exchanges and the game was in the balance until the last minute.

Narberth played down the hill in the first half with the wind in their favour. They had the bulk of possession and had several good passages but superb defence held out.

The pressure told when a smart blindside move from a scrum involving Cian Rogers and Elliot Evans released Owen Llewellyn to score in the corner. The Otters scored again following a sweeping move that ended with Llewellyn again crossing.

Crymych responded well and had several attacks, but it remained 10-0 at the interval.

The young Otters scored first in the second half with fine work from Kyle

Day and Yori Evans resulting in James Price scoring in the corner.

Crymych game roaring back with an excellent try through Jake Noot, converted by Owain Davies. They added a further try from impressive wing Hedd George, with Davies again converting.

The momentum and elements were with Crymych, but Narberth nerves were settled with a well-struck penalty from Fraser Jones.

There was one last attack from Crymych which fell agonisingly short.

Outstanding for Crymych were Macs Page, Cai Evans and Iestyn Wood, while for Narberth the back row of Yori Evans, Cian Rogers and skipper Ioan Phillips enjoyed tremendous games.

Wings James Price and Llewellyn also had excellent matches, but the man of the match was Narberth’s Day.
