Tutor’s lecture to close WEA branch season
THE Llanelli branch of the WEA (Workers’ Educational Association) will be holding the final lecture of the group’s winter series tomorrow.
The guest speaker will be Roger Price, who will be speaking on The Cambro-Normans in Wales and Ireland: 1169-1399.
Mr Price has been a popular class tutor for WEA Llanelli over many years, and has researched this subject over many years, so it promises to be a fascinating insight into this period in Welsh/ Irish history.
The lecture will be illustrated, and questions and discussion will be welcomed after the presentation. As the Selwyn Samuel Centre is still not available, the lecture will take place in EJ’s Cafe Bar, Vauxhall, Llanelli. There is ample free parking nearby. Doors are open from 7pm, and the lecture will start at 7.30pm. The bar will be open for after-lecture drinks.
Ruth Price, WEA membership secretary, said: “WEA Llanelli is a great cultural institution in our town. Lectures are free for everyone to attend. Our next lecture series will then commence in September, and we are currently working on our programme. Suggestions for speakers are welcome, as are new volunteers for our committee.”
WEA Llanelli has achieved remarkable status within Wales as one of the oldest, and largest, branches. The formation of the branch was first proposed in the months leading up to the First World War, when a meeting was held on June 20, 1914, at the old Town Hall in Hall Street. By March 1915, lectures and classes were established jointly with the Aberystwyth Joint Committee for University Tutorial Classes.
