Well, doggone! Canines get their own playground
TWO adventure paddocks for dogs have been opened at a centre in Carmarthenshire.
It’s the latest venture from the John Burns Foundation at its site in Kidwelly.
Located just off the A484, the fields are fenced to heights of 4ft and 6ft at the Canolfan John Burns Centre.
Both areas are available to book exclusively for use by individuals or groups of friends with up to five dogs.
Melanie Jones, chief executive of the John Burns Foundation, said: “The parks are perfect for stress-free off-lead exercising, safe recall practice and sensory play.
“There is a wide range of enrichment activities for dogs to enjoy such as digging zones, climbing equipment, sniffing area and textured surfaces.”
Access gates can be secured upon entering and leaving the park, while visual barriers obscure views of surrounding land to give owners with nervous, reactive dogs peace of mind.
The Dog Adventure Park has been designed by dog trainers to benefit pets and their owners and has been developed under the guidance of veterinary surgeon John Burns.
All proceeds from dog park bookings will go to help the John Burns Foundation run charitable projects in the local community and beyond.
The foundation, which has a branch in Ireland, employs 13 staff. Its aim is simple – to make a difference to the lives of people and their animal companions.
People often assume its focus is entirely on animal-based activities, and while it does have programmes centred on just that, the foundation is constantly developing new projects and partnerships which aim to enhance the lives of disadvantaged people by offering practical recreational facilities and opportunities to develop life skills, as well as using the arts, the great outdoors and special events to bring enjoyment to the whole community.
