Afternoon tea is fit for a Queen!
IT WAS an occasion fit for a Queen.
Llanelli Rotary Club marked the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a special afternoon tea for senior citizens at Furnace village community hall in the town.
“It was a fabulous occasion and Rotarians and their guests had a great time,” said organiser Maxine Walters, who is the incoming president of Llanelli Rotary Club.
“We had about 70 guests and a great spread of food for everyone to enjoy. My thanks go to everyone who contributed to making it all a huge success. We had great help from everyone who contributed food and cakes, and Rotarians and their friends helped with the waiter service for our guests.
The Rotary Club has experience of organising similar events – five years ago Rotarians commemorated Queen Elizabeth II’s sapphire anniversary (65th year of reign) by holding a tea party at Furnace Hall.
“The Platinum Jubilee party at Furnace Hall was our way of making sure that some of the town’s older citizens didn’t miss out on the fun and marking such a wonderful and historic occasion,” said Maxine.
“Rotary works hard to develop community spirit in Llanelli and we also made sure that the event was free for our guests.”
The Llanelli Ukeleles Band provided the entertainment.
“They went down a storm,” said Maxine. “And there was a great singalong atmosphere.”
Special VIP guests at the party included Llanelli MS Lee Waters and Llanelli Town Mayor Cllr Philip Warlow.
Llanelli Rotary president Ieuan Griffiths said: “A wonderful feeling of worth was achieved by Rotarians and supporters in providing local community members with the opportunity to enjoy such simple pleasures and fellowship.
“The Rotary values and beliefs of ‘service above self’ was well-represented by this event.”
