Rogers and Byng guide Wanderers to easy win

-

A SUPERB knock by Lewis Byng and a fiery spell by Simon Rogers guided Carmarthen Wanderers Seconds to a comfortable win over Gorseinon in cricket’s Premier West Division.

Byng scored a fluent 92 off just 96 balls as the Wanderers eased to an 88-run victory.

He found valuable support from opener Carl Holding (40) as the home side reached 232-8 in their 45 overs. Kai Summers added a quickfire 28.

Steffan Richards picked up 2-19 for Gorseinon.

The visitors were never in the hunt as they crashed to 19-4 in their reply. Rogers did most of the damage as he claimed figures of 6-32.

Gorseinon were all out for 144, with Sean Murphy making 38 and Luke Evans 31.

Ammanford Seconds were beaten by nine wickets at the Park by visitors Neath.

Batting first, Ammanford began promisingly with their top order all scoring runs.

Tiaan Evans (37), Cellan Allcock (37) and Benjamin Thomas (41) all looked good until their dismissals, taking Ammanford to a respectable 128-3.

But the middle and lower orders were unable to capitalise on this start, and Ammanford collapsed to 156 all out in 42 overs.

Nathan Warlow was Neath’s chief wicket-taker with 3-27.

An early wicket gave Ammanford hope, but it was soon dispelled by the arrival of Dafydd James at the crease.

Supported by Sam Bowring (38no), James hit a quickfire unbeaten 88 to overtake the Ammanford total in just 20 overs.

Llanelli lost by 23 runs at Swansea.

The St Helen’s side racked up 267-5 in their 45 overs, with T Haden (73 not out) and M Aazim (59) leading the way.

Aled Gilley and Jordan Evans both claimed two wickets.

Llanelli made a good fist of their run chase, but they were all out for 244.

Pontarddulais went down by 10 runs in a low-scoring game at Clydach.

Bont looked in control of the contest as they dismissed the hosts for just 84. William Jones took 4-18 and Richard Davies 4-21.

But the 30 scored by Clydach batsman Richard Brunton ultimately proved crucial as the visitors were all out for 74.

Jack Wathan returned the excellent figures of 5-18 and Max Woods 3-21.

William Jones (15) and Ryan Thomas (11) were the only Pontarddulais batsmen to reach double figures.
