TRUNDLE AGREES AMMANFORD DEAL

Former Swans hero agrees terms for a fourth season

LEE Trundle is staying with Ammanford.

The former Swansea City striker has agreed to stay with the club for a fourth campaign.

The news will come as a huge boost to Ammanford chiefs as Trundle remains among the most prolific strikers in JD Cymru South.

Last term he formed a potent combination with fellow frontman Tristan Jenkins which yielded a steady stream of goals.

Trundle made his name with Swansea where he proved one of the most popular players in the club’s history. He also had a stint with Bristol City, while he has also featured for Llanelli Town and Trefelin BGC in the Welsh football pyramid.

The 45-year-old is just one of a number of players Ammanford have agreed fresh terms with as the Recreation Ground club look to put last season’s struggles behind them.

They only secured safety from relegation on the final weekend of the campaign.

Defender Ben Soal has agreed to stay for a season in which he could notch up his 300th appearance for the club.

The 30-year-old has so far played 284 games for Ammanford and scored 13 goals.

Experienced defender Lee Bevan is another to remain. Bevan, who turns 35 next month, suffered injury problems during the second half of last season and Ammanford missed his presence at the back.

Midfielder Owyn Airey, who made a big impression after arriving during the winter transfer window, has also extended his stay at the club.

Long-serving Matthew Jones, who has been with Ammanford for 16 seasons, has signed new terms, alongside Shane Parry, Brett Enoch, Euros Griffiths and Rhys Fisher.

Meanwhile, Kevin Morris has rejoined the management team at Carmarthen Town.

He will have responsibility for player recruitment.

Mark Aizlewood, who has taken over as Old Gold boss ahead of the new season, said: “The last time Kevin joined he was my best ever signing and very instrumental in the success we enjoyed.

“Kevin has lost none of his enthusiasm for football and has already had a significant impact on player retention since rejoining.

“I look forward to working with Kev and hope with his support and influence to bring some good times back to the club.”

Morris is the latest addition to Aizlewood’s backroom team, with former Welsh international Andy Legg installed as assistant manager.
