Pupils have a ball thanks to generous donations
SPECIAL needs pupils at Llanelli’s Ysgol Heol Goffa enjoyed an amazing summer ball on Friday, thanks to kind-hearted townsfolk.
Well-wishers donated more than £4,600 for the event in a great outpouring of love and kindness after the theft of cash raised by a pupil for the school’s summer ball.
The school suffered a break-in and vandalism during the May half-term which sparked a huge appeal in the Llanelli Star and on
Facebook resulting in scores of donations.
A GoFundMe page that was set up by local resident Charlene Jones raised £3,125 and the ball was due to go ahead as planned on Friday at Llanelli Cricket Club.
“The response has been out of this world and the generosity people have shown has been amazing. I thank you from the bottom of my heart,” she said ahead of the event.
“What a community, I’m proud to say I’m part of it as when the chips are down, Llanelli pulls together as one.”
Cor Curiad choir held a fundraising concert at the St Elli Shopping Centre, drawing large crowds, which raised £1,555.
The choir’s Alex Esney said: “The amount of people who turned up was amazing, what a fantastic community we have.
“A massive thank you to all the talented performers who gave their time for free.”
People have also stepped in to help decorate the cricket club for the ball and provide a sweet cart for it too.
Town councillor Shaun Greaney, who has helped co-ordinate the appeal, said: “People came out in their droves to support the school.
“A massive thank you to all who donated and all who played a part.”
