Wanderers make sure of quick victory

-

CARMARTHEN Wanderers Seconds returned from Gorseinon with a comfortable seven-wicket victory under their belts in Premier League West.

The Wanderers asked the hosts to bat first and the decision soon paid dividends as spinner Steff Jones (3-13) and Kai Summers (2-18) reduced Gorseinon to 18-5.

Youngsters Lewys Thomas and Henry Moore joined the action and both took two wickets apiece as Gorseinon crumbled to 46 all out, with skipper Chris Richards (17) the only player to reach double figures.

Young wicketkeeper Harry Connick claimed three victims and skipper Carl Holding grabbed two slip catches.

With rain in the forecast and the weather closing in, the Wanderers knocked off the runs in nine overs, with Oli John (13) and Connick (13 not out) guiding them to victory.

Jake Mann took two of the wickets to fall. Llanelli went down by eight wickets at home to Swansea.

The home side batted first and a fine innings of 70 from Jonny George helped them to 216-8 off their 45 overs. He found excellent support from Jordan Evans (43) and Dan Rees (28 not out).

The onset of rain meant Swansea had a revised target of 174 to chase, and they made it with ease thanks to a stand of 92 between Ioan Webber (51 not out) and Hasan Hayat (37 not out).

Pontarddulais had no trouble in seeing off Clydach by nine wickets.

Clydach batted first and were all out for 98 in the 33rd over. Bont then coasted to victory, reaching 102-1 in the 18th over.

The game between Neath and Ammanford was called off.

Saturday’s matches see Ammanford entertain Gorseinon, Llanelli head to Mumbles, Pontarddulais make the trip to Ynystawe and Carmarthen Wanderers travel to Ynysygerwn.
