Michelin meals on wheels with chef ’s delivery service

- Barney Davis

A TOP chef is launching an “affordable fine-dining” alternative to Deliveroo, t a k i n g Mi c h e l i n - s t a r r e d mea l s to armchair gourmets across London.

David Moore, owner of Pied à Terre in Fitzrovia, whose clientele includes Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro and Kanye West, plans to launch Michelin For The Masses next year. He hopes that by preparing meals in kitchens on industrial estates, he can halve his restaurant prices to deliver fresh scallops “for a tenner”. The food will be carried on three-wheeled scooters by drivers able to give detailed descriptions of the food seven nights a week, anywhere within the M25.

Mr Moore will invite other chefs to feature in a guest menu as the project expands to more top restaurants.

He said: “Anything fragile or super sensitive to the cooking process won’t work. So, for example, we’re developing ways to freeze a soufflé to -40C so it can survive the journey and the customer can reheat it at home. It will be just like it is fresh out of the kitchen.

“It won’t stop people coming to restaurants because you don’t get the same level of charm, setting and atmosphere but it will be as close as you can get.”
