Mission impossible in gangland

- Tonight, London Live, 10pm

There was so much for Danny Boyle to fret over on the eve of the 2012 Olympics, so many cogs which had to fit together at the right moment, his worries stretching from Kenneth Branagh smoking a cigar in an authentic Isambard Kingdom Brunel manner to the Queen wearing her best bloomers for her parachute jump.

These worries are incomparable to the single overriding fear carried by fashion executive Deeva Jani (Parminder Nagra), whose concern isn’t whether a trampolining NHS nurse will miss the trampoline but the arrest of her brother Vipon for a gang-related murder.

London is an endless process of renovation, the number of cranes here greater than when Frasier’s extended family visits, and there’s a different look and feel to this pre-games London.

An army of Gamesmakers couldn’t make Deeva feel welcome as she negotiates bent cops and gangs, Stephen Dillane, Kaya Scodelario, Michael Socha and Jonas Armstrong all lurking with their own agenda in this Paul Abbott thriller.
