Record £11 bn tax bill for Apple in Ireland
APPLE has been hit with a bill for £11 billion of back taxes in Ireland following a landmark ruling by Brussels.
The €13 billion penalty levied on the US giant by Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager is the biggest in the history of the European Union.
The previous record was the £1.2 billion levied against French energy giant EDF in 2015.
Today’s announcement follows a three-year investigation of Apple in Ireland and is sure to spark a row with the US government.
