Shaw could be in trouble for his pie-eating stunt

-

SUTTON goalkeeper Wayne Shaw may be in hot water with the FA for his pie-eating stunt during last night’s match, writes Tom Collomosse.

The 23-stone reserve ’keeper was filmed munching the snack on the bench during the second half (right)

— and it transpired a bookmakers had offered odds of 8/1 of it happening.

In August 2014, a worldwide ban was introduced on betting on football for all those involved in the game from Premier League to National League level, as well as the Women’s Super League. The FA did not comment on the matter today.

Shaw denies betting on the stunt but asked whether anyone had staked money on it, he said: “I think there were a few people. Obviously we are not allowed to bet. A few of the lads said to me earlier on, ‘What is going on with the 8-1 about eating a pie?’ I said, ‘I don’t know, I’ve eaten nothing all day, so I might give it a go later on’.”

Chairman Bruce Elliott said: “I will have a chat to him about it. He is such a character. I keep kidding him that he has become an internet sensation and it’s obviously gone to his head, or his mouth anyway!”
