This may make you feel sorry for Trump
I AM still trying to comprehend Donald Trump, having failed to think of anybody I have ever met the least bit like him. Help is on the way from the States though, in the form of speculative medical diagnoses.
One online petition contends that he patently suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder. A writer in The New Republic goes one better by suggesting that he might be afflicted with tertiary syphilis (“recognised symptoms include irritability, loss of ability to concentrate, delusional thinking, and grandiosity”).
And last weekend, after Trump’s bizarre Swedish terror gaffe, his Twitter nemesis, Louise Mensch, hinted that he might be in the early stages of Frontotemporal Dementia, FTD, also known as Pick’s Disease.
Looking up the early symptoms of this as described by Alzheimer’s Research UK proves a head-clasping moment. Changes may include “lack of understanding of other people’s feelings … Impulsive or easily distracted … Problems with attention and concentration could give the impression of memory problems … Difficulty with simple plans …” Feeling sorry for Trump? Could yet happen.
