REFUGEE camps filled with deportees from across Latin America could be strewn along Mexico’s US border under a new immigration blitz announced by President Trump’s administration.
Mexicans fear that their already violent border lands will be used as a dumping ground for people caught trying to enter the US illegally.
In the past, only Mexican nationals would be deported to Mexico — while others, usually from Central and South America, would be flown back to their respective countries.
Now, under new enforcement policies announced by the US Department of Homeland Security, migrants of all nationalities might be forced back over the border into Mexico while their asylum claims or deportation proceedings are heard in the US.
The crackdown would enable authorities to pursue and detain undocumented immigrants and legal ones with criminal records, while also restricting asylum claims. It includes plans to hire 15,000 new border patrol and Immigration & Customs Enforcement agents.
