Online gallery reveals beauties that we dash past on the Tube

A COMMUTER who became fascinated by patterns on the Tube on his journeys to work has spent five months photographing everything from tiles to seat covers.

Andy Williams, an advertising account producer, said he noticed the Underground’s artistic riches while travelling from Highgate to Soho.

He said: “These patterns kept catching my eye and I had a lightbulb moment. I thought how many millions of people walk past every day without looking up and realising there is a sprawling art gallery on the Tube?”

Mr Williams has now set up a Tube Patterns Instagram account to post his images and invite others to share theirs.

He said: “There’s such an amazing variety of designs, but among my favourites are the visual puns on the Victoria line, with things like five crowns for King’s Cross.”
