Home delivery recipe kits to go on sale in supermarkets

- Jonathan Prynn

A RECIPE kit home delivery service aimed at busy commuters who do not want to eat ready meals or takeaways is to start selling its boxes in supermarkets for the first time.

The HelloFresh “scratch cooking” kits will be stocked in more than 30 Sainsbury’s stores in and around London, before going on sale across the country. The dishes are designed to be cooked within 30 minutes using only basic kitchen equipment. The firm was cofounded by former Cit y solicitor Patrick Drake, who launched the service five years ago. It now delivers almost nine million meals a month to “time poor” homes in nine countries.

The HelloFresh Go boxes will cost £10 and will offer five options including teriyaki chicken with coconut rice and bok choi, and Mexican tomato jumble with spiced citrus halloumi. A new set of recipes will be introduced every six weeks. The boxes are filled with all the fresh, dried and tinned ingredients needed to make the meal, as well as “idiot- proof ” recipe cards.

Mr Drake, 38, said buying the box avoided the need to visit numerous supermarket aisles and purchase items in unnecessarily large quantities.

Surplus food is donated to the Felix Project charity.
