- Benedict Moore-Bridger

A MURDER inve stigation was launched today after a middle-aged man was found stabbed on a bus in Marylebone.

The 48-year-old was discovered with a fatal knife wound on the number 189 bus shortly after midnight. Paramedics rushed to Gloucester Place but could not save the man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh said: “I believe the victim boarded the bus at Brent Cross shopping centre at 11.13pm on Thursday.

“I want to hear from anyone who was at Brent Cross station around this time or who travelled on the route 189 bus from Brent Cross to the Marylebone area at around that time. It is crucial that we speak to you even if you don’t believe you saw anything significant.” Officers are analysing available CCTV footage from the bus. A spokesman for the Met said they knew the identity of the victim, and his next of kin had been informed.

In a separate attack, an 18-year-old man was fighting for his life after being stabbed in Plumstead yesterday. Police said the teenager was involved in an “altercation with group of three to four youths”.

A 31-year-old man was in critical condition in hospital today after he was stabbed trying to prevent a handbag theft in Dulwich Park. Witnesses said the victim was attacked with a screwdriver in front of parents and children just after 1pm yesterday. The man apparently stepped in to help a friend when a thief on a bike snatched her handbag. He was stabbed as he grappled to get it back, said witnesses. There have been no arrests.
