LITTLE NIGHTMARES PS4

- LUKE JOHNSON

WELCOME to your worst nightmare. Games aren’t just about letting you live out your fantasies by racing supercars, competing in the

Olympics or shooting zombies in the face, at times they are designed to scare.

This normally involves suspensebuilding frights and ungodly creatures tearing people limb from limb. Little Nightmares, however, is a very different type of horror game.

Dodging the classic scare tactics and surprises, it instead haunts you to your very core. It’s truly terrifying, just in a less obvious, in-your-face way. You play as Six, a raincoatwearing child who wakes in what appears to be a run-down cargo ship for giants. From here, escape is your only option, but a side-scrolling world of hidden horrors and the angst-building unknown awaits, and the only tool you have is a lighter.

As you work your way through the linear world, solving puzzles and unravelling head-scratching challenges as you go, the tension builds.

Things quickly cross the line from creepy to the stuff of childhood nightmares as you’re drip-fed shadowy glimpses of the oversized monsters that have taken you captive.

The anxiety levels spike from the off as you wonder the worrying, oversized world in complete isolation. There’s no tutorial to guide
