De Boer thinks Palace can give him a fresh start after Inter nightmare

- Giuseppe Muro Football Correspondent

FRANK DE BOER sees Crystal Palace as a good opportunity to rebuild his managerial career.

De Boer has been offered the Palace job and is set to decide whether to accept the position over the weekend.

Palace hope to complete a deal for the 47-year-old and an announcement is likely next week.

De Boer has been out of work since being sacked by Inter Milan in November after only 85 days in charge.

That was his second stint as manager with his first being a hugely successful five-and-a-half years with Ajax where he won four successive Dutch titles.

De Boer has been considering his next move carefully since his 14-game spell in charge of Inter, who were under new Chinese ownership.

He left Inter with the club 12th in Serie A but Palace chairman Steve Parish was impressed when he interviewed the former Holland defender.

Parish has wanted to appoint a manager who will stay at Selhurst Park long enough to build the club and sees De Boer as that man.

The chairman has also been weighing up the direction Palace want to go in terms of the style of the team. De Boer played for Ajax, Barcelona, Galatasaray and Rangers, as well as making more than 100 appearances for Holland.

De Boer has been linked with the Tottenham and Liverpool jobs in the past and is attracted by working in the Premier League.

His appointment would end a lengthy search for a new manager since Palace were left shocked by the sudden resignation of Sam Allardyce more than a month ago.

De Boer did an impressive job at Ajax, who had not won the Dutch League since 2004 when he took over in 2010.

He resigned last summer after losing out on a fifth straight title to PSV Eindhoven on the final day of the season.

De Boer struggled at Inter but would represent an exciting appointment for Palace, who have also interviewed Mauricio Pellegrino.

Sean Dyche was also considered but the Burnley manager was not spoken to about the job.

Palace return for pre-season training on July 2 and will travel to Asia for the Premier League Trophy in Hong Kong next month.

The Eagles kick off the new season at home to Huddersfield Town on the weekend of August 12-13.
