Busy time for WI...

-

PRESIDENT Valerie Greenhill welcomed members to the March meeting of the Thorpe

Acre WI held at the Thorpe Acre Church Hall on Tuesday, March 14 at 7.30pm.

Two birthday cards were given out this month.

February’s lunch at Chapter 1 was brought forwards to 12pm as Sue had organised a spontaneous visit to the Odeon Cinema to see ’Lion’. For our lunch in April, we will be going back to one of our favourite haunts, The Three Nuns.

Our next coffee morning will be in March at Morrison’s new café, where we might just be tempted to have that free cup of coffee with that piece of cake we’ve just bought, courtesy of our WI booklet voucher.

The venue for May’s coffee morning will be The Cheesecake Shop – I wonder why?

As well as `Lion’ a small group of culture vultures returned to the Odeon to see a stunning, live version of ` The Sleeping Beauty’.

On the horizon are the films ` The Viceroy’s House’, ` The Time of Their Lives’ and on the very distant horizon perhaps a visit to the Birmingham Hippodrome to see ` Wicked’ in 2018.

Everyone enjoyed the social darts evening held at `Spot On, especially Jean who won the football sweepstake. Sue Y. led the winning team so she’s a definitely a definite for one of our darts team.

Over the past two months, our new social secretaries, Carole and Jacqui (aka The Dynamic Duo) have assessed the viability of the many activities suggested by members at Christmas.

They circulated a short list of possibilities, including boat trips and a visit to a local vineyard, and members were asked to highlight ones that they were interested in. There were quite a few so some might have to run over into 2018.

Valerie drew members’ attention to The County Dairy and some articles in the County News, the most relevant being ` The Great Get-Together’ to be held on 17/18th.

The aim of this event is to bring a community together using street parties, picnics etc.

The committee had thought about inviting people from the Thorpe Acre area to an `Open Day `at the village hall where we would offer refreshments. Valerie asked members to think about this and give their views at the next meeting.
