Road closure issues have been treated with complete disregard

-

THE concurrent road closures in Barrow upon Soar at Grove Lane and Melton Road are, as was feared, causing problems for existing residents, a matter which it is felt has been treated with complete disregard by the authorities.

The closure at Grove Lane due to the rail bridge collapse could not be prevented, however, Leicestershire County Council Highways approved the closure at Melton Road at the request of the developer, Jelson Homes, to run concurrently with that at Grove Lane against the recommendation of county councillor Coun Kershaw and parish council stating that ‘closing the two roads at the same time would be less disruptive’.

Both closures have been extended to the end of March during which time Slash Lane has been flooded and therefore inaccessible for several days adding to residents’ frustration.

It is also a concern that the Melton Road closure seems to involve work which is subject to planning conditions sanctioned by the High Court.

To date the condition imposed relating to foul sewers has yet to be discharged. There have been three foul spillages in the past 18 months thought to be due to recent development in the village coupled with capacity issues.

A letter has been sent to LCC Chief Executive in this matter. Barrow-upon-Soar Parish Council
