PLANS for 270 dwellings in Shepshed have been given the go ahead - and the developer is aiming to put homes up for sale within the second half of this year.

Charnwood Borough Council’s planning committee met on Thursday, April 6, to discuss a reserved matters application relating to 270 dwellings, with associated parking and residential amenities, which are to be built on land off Hathern Road.

Approval of the outline application was given in July 2015 and the reserved matters application was put before the committee on Febru- ary 9 but was deferred after an error was found in data relating to affordable housing.

In a document presented at the committee, it states the developer has since submitted a revised affordable housing statement, further details relating to flooding and a revised noise report.

Coun Bill Bebbington spoke against the application as he believed “the developer has failed to resolve the flooding problem” and it had “considered the volume of water but not how to take it away”.

Documentation at the meeting said the local lead flood authority deemed the additional documents submitted by the developer as sufficient.

It also stated amendments to the plans included a ditch that will link through to a culvert and a culvert to drain from a balancing pond.

The developer has also made changes to include four two-bedroom bungalows for rent which officers welcomed.

Amy Gilliver, speaking on behalf of applicant Persimmon Homes, said: “We have worked very closely with officers over several months to create a development which is well designed and achievable.

“Should the site be approved, we’d look to release houses for sale within the second half of this year.” The application was granted. The full reserved matters application can be found at portal.charnwood.gov.uk by searching P/16/0686/2.
