NINETEEN entries have already been received for this year’s Shepshed Volunteer Centre Open Gardens event.

The two-day event is one of the biggest fund-raisers of the year for Shepshed Volunteer Centre and the Shepshed Community Bus.

This year, gardens all over the town will be opened up for members of the public to enjoy on both Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2.

And there is still time for you to get involved - with entries being accepted until the end of April.

Shepshed Volunteer Centre’s Angie Whitmore told the Echo: “Last year we had 20 gardens and raised £1,800 which was shared between ourselves and the Shepshed Community Bus.

“It is a big event for us and everyone’s support is so important.

“We have got 19 gardens signed up so far and they are a good mix of returning gardens and new ones which is great.

“We would still love to get more people signed up though so please do get in touch if you are interested in taking part.

“You can take part on just one of the days or both, whichever suits you best.

“Programmes telling people where all of the open gardens are located will be on sale closer to the event and will cost £3 and there will also be a raffle so if anyone would like to donate any prizes then please get in touch.”

Shepshed Volunteer Centre’s wellbeing garden, which is located behind the centre in Charnwood Road, will also be open to the public over the Open Gardens weekend.

Angie added: “We have got Serenade, Shepshed Women’s Community Choir, coming to sing in the wellbeing garden on the Saturday which will be lovely and there will be a chance for people to experience the well-being garden and what it has to offer.”
