“The Alcyone could calm the waves as it nested at sea, from a myth in which Aeolus, the ruler of the winds, had a daughter named Alcyone, married to Ceyx who drowned at sea. Alcyone, grieving, threw herself into the waves, but instead of drowning, she was transformed into the colourful bird recognised as the Kingfisher.”
