- Report by Liam Coleman

RECENTLY crowned the tallest man in Britain, a Loughborough basketball player has now got his eyes set on Hollywood and starting his acting career.

Paul Sturgess, 29, stands at 7ft 7in - and a little bit more - and was officially given the title of Britain’s tallest man after Game of Thrones actor Neil Fingleton passed away in February. Paul has spent the last four years touring the world with the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team and has met Barack Obama and a host of stars including Kim Kardashian and Eminem. Paul already held the record for being the tallest ever professional basketballer in the world and he told the Echo that he now has eyes on the silver screen.

Paul said: “In the last month or so I have signed up with an acting agency and would love to act in some films.

“When I was in America I used to meet lots of famous people and they would come and watch the Globetrotters play so I’ve made some great contacts.

“I’ve even had Ben Stiller watch me play, but I didn’t ask him for any acting tips.

“The dream would be to be in a movie alongside Denzel Washington, he’s my favourite actor so I would love to do that.

“I also love horror movies and because of my height I’m sure I could play some scary roles but really I’ve just got my fingers crossed that something comes along.

“I’m looking forward to spending some more time at home with my friends and family now that I have stopped touring.

“I’ve spent 11 years back and forth from America so it will be nice to be back and in little old Loughborough. I’m proud of where I am from and always mention Loughborough whenever I can.”

Paul went to Burleigh Community College in Loughborough and said that he wasn’t even the tallest in his class when he was younger.

He then spent the five years studying sports science in West Virginia after winning a scholarship to the US

He said: “I had a growth spurt when I was 17/18 and I just shot right up but I never thought I would be this tall.”

Paul also told the Echo that although his height has opened the doors to opportunities he never dreamt of, that it also has its drawbacks.

He said that he wants to start driving while he is home at the minute but hasn’t been able to find an instructor with a car big enough.

He said: “I want to learn to drive but haven’t found anyone with an automatic car that’s big enough for me to use.

So if anyone knows anyone out there then please get in touch!”
