Liverpool Academy to play Uni

-

LOUGHBOROUGH University FC will play host to a team from the Liverpool Academy next week.

Liverpool’s Under 18 Academy manager Neil Crtichley is bringing his full squad down to the university on Wednesday, May 3, for a game at Holywell Park with a scheduled 7pm kick off.

It is expected Liverpool will field a team including captain Liam Coyle, Adam Lewis who have all trained with first team, and Glen McAuley who has scored a bagful of goals this season.

Recently two of the players who would still qualify for the Reds Under 18 side, Trent Alexander Arnold and Ben Woodburn have made starts in the Premier Division and Liverpool have high hopes on more such talent coming through a side that next season, will be coached by former Liverpool and England legend Steven Gerrard.

Whether the former England captain will be at the game isn’t known yet.

Having already met sides representing Tottenham, Manchester United, Leicester City, Burnley and Charlton Athletic at Holywell over the past few seasons this represents another opportunity for the University players to showcase their talents against one of the major Academy sides in the country.

For a few of the University team it will be a bitter sweet occasion as they play their final game in the Uni colours before going to locations far and wide.

The game also presents the opportunity to the Student side to say a thank you to its local support.

Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, students and staff. There will be the opportunity to pay at the turnstiles on the night.
