AN ARRAY of blooming beautiful photos have been received as part of a competition which called on green-fingered Loughborough residents to showcase their floral masterpieces.

The Loughborough Echo, along with Loughborough in Bloom Community Participation Group deputy chair Mike Jones, launched the Loughborough In Bloom’s Best Spring Floral Displays competition.

The competition was open to Loughborough front gardens and any home floral display, including window boxes, which can be seen by passer-bys. Residents have submitted their photos to the Echo and the amount of great greenery and flourishing flowers around the town is impressive.

The first entry was from Darren and Michelle Frisby, of Sandringham Drive, whose blossom trees and vibrant coloured flowers kicked off the competition with style.

Edwin and Kath Newbold, of Wheatland Drive, sent in a photo of their colourful selection of plants and Carol and Harding Brown, of Hillcrest Drive, submitted a picture of their perfectly pruned garden.

Betty Buchanan, of Alan Moss Road, entered her garden full of beautiful pink flowers and John and Karen Watson, of Lilleshall Way, submitted a photo of their gorgeous greenery. Entries have also been received from hedge-trimming extraordinaires Ann and Roy Coulthard, of Trellissick Close, and from Norma Kirk, of Hanover Court, and Patricia Scott, of Hanover Court - who both use bursts of colour to brighten their gardens.

Judges are to visit the town’s top fronts to assess various aspects of them including the floral displays, sustainability and the overall impact.

The garden or floral display in first place will receive a prize of £25, second place will receive £15 and third place will receive £10.

Echo editor and Loughborough in Bloom Board chair Andy Rush said: “Loughborough really is full of talented gardeners!”
