Months of roadworks planned for borough

- By Zoe Higgins zoe.higgins@trinitymirror.com

TEMPORARY road closures, reduced speed limits and other traffic regulations will be in place across Charnwood and North West Leicestershire over the coming months as a host of surface dressing works are carried out.

Leicestershire County Council began the roadworks in Castle Donington, Hemington, Lockington and other North West Leicestershire towns and villages last week and will continue in the district in May when Coalville, Packington and Snarestone are targeted.

Also in May, work will begin on roads in Charnwood, including those in Loughborough, Wymeswold and Woodhouse.

Surface dressing will begin again in Charnwood in August when Loughborough, Shepshed, Burton on the Wolds, Sileby, Mountsorrel, Birstall and Thurcaston are the focus of the works.

A Leicestershire County Council spokesman said: “This week the county council has started work in North West Leicestershire, and we plan to move to Charnwood in May and again in August.

“Throughout the 28 -week period our work- force will be moving between districts as we switch between the different surface dressing types.

“Although the work is dependent on warm temperatures helping the chippings stick to the road – it is hoped that the work will be completed by September.

“Any areas that cannot be completed because of the weather will be added to next season’s programme.”

The roads that will be the subject of ‘Temporary Prohibition of Through Traffic’ orders are Snells Nook Lane in Loughborough, Narrow Lane in Wymeswold, Mountsorrel Lane in Sileby, Gelscoe Lane to Mill Lane in Belton and Bull Hill in Worthington.

The authority is advising motorists to visit the ‘Whats On’ section on the Leicestershire County Council website to find out updated information on an ongoing basis.

Here is the monthly list of when work will be carried out:

• April: North West Leicestershire- Lockington – Hemington, Castle Donington, Worthington, Coalville, Donington Le Heath, Ravenstone, Ellistown, Ashby Woulds and Hugglescote
