Photo evening

-

SILEBY Photographic Society members enjoyed a relaxed evening of photographic viewing at their meeting held on Monday, April 24.

This comprised a prerecorded audio visual presentation produced by the North & East Midlands Photographic Federation and consisted of some of the best prints, monochrome and colour, entered by members of the federation and which had been included in its recent 62nd Annual Exhibition 2017.

Together with a brief descriptive and often humorous commentary, a superb collection of prints was projected which covered a vast range of subjects including landscapes, seascapes, portraits, transport, flora and fauna, architecture, sport, natural history and wildlife.

Sileby Photographic Society was once again well represented amongst other competing clubs and those flying the flag for the society were Richard Storier, Gianpiero Ferrari, Kevin Blood, Colin Machin and Pete Smith with a varied subject selection of their choice. Two colour prints by Alun Williams, in particular, had caught the keen eye of the selectors.

He received a ‘highly commended’ award for his outstanding print of a Vietnamese lady depicting her ‘lived-in’ face, and a selector’s personal choice award for ‘Casting the Net’, two superb exhibits worthy of recognition.

To assist the selectors when deliberating over entries to be included in the Exhibition, they applied, as far as possible, the following criteria – ‘pictorial qualities’, ‘clarity and simplicity’, ‘elegance and sophistication’, ‘naturalness’, and ‘exotic and elusive’ and it was evident from the presentation that all prints shown achieved one or more of these elements.

The NEMPF Exhibition overall highlighted stunning photographic talent available within its membership evidencing superb artistic flair, particularly when employing creative skills to achieve quite brilliant end results.

Standards were extremely high and it was pleasing to know that Sileby’s members can justifiably compete with the best photographers in the North & East Midlands.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, May 8 when the third round of the Quarterly Competition will take place.

As usual, visitors and prospective new members are always welcome to attend the meetings which commence at 7.45pm for 8.00pm and are held at the Sileby Community Centre.

The society does have its own comprehensive website, the address of which is www. silebyps.org.uk
