DISCOUNT store chain Home Bargains has confirmed it is to open a second, larger store in Loughborough later this year, with work already started on the site.

The company is taking over the site in Belton Road West Extension that was previously occupied by office sup- ply specialist Staples.

The Echo reported back in September 2015 that an application had been submitted to Charnwood Borough Council seeking permission for an extended range of goods to be sold on the premises.

The company is taking over the site in Belton Road West Extension that was previously occupied by office supply specialist Staples.

The Echo reported back in September 2015 that an application had been submitted to Charnwood Borough Council seeking permission for an extended range of goods to be sold on the premises.

Although the application was not submitted directly by Home Bargains, the company was named in related documents but this is the first time it has confirmed its plans.

Home Bargains already has one store in Loughborough - located in Devonshire Square - but the chain says it has no plans to close it and will instead have two shops in the town.

A spokesperson for Home Bargains said: “This will be the second Home Bargains store in Loughborough and we are scheduled to open in autumn 2017.

“We are currently recruiting and we would encourage those interested to head to our careers website for more information.

“As a result of our constant growth, we’re always looking for new staff across the country.”

Staples closed the doors to its Loughborough store earlier this year following the brand’s sale to a restructuring company.

The US owner of Staples sold the UK arm of the stationery specialist to Hilco for a “nominal” sum.

Hilco then announced in November that it was planning to phase out Staples-branded shops over the coming months.

In April, Home Bargains contractors moved onto the Belton Road West Extension site, cordoning off the car park and ripping up the asphalt.

Work will now take place on the site over the coming months before Loughborough’s second, larger Home Bargains store is scheduled to open to customers in Autumn 2017.
