SUPERSTORE giant Aldi has officially submitted a planning application for a food store on land off Allendale Road, Loughborough.

The news that the company was hoping to build a store on the site was revealed last March.

Since then the firm says that it has been consulting with residents and says that it has been delighted with the feedback it had received.

A spokesperson for Aldi said that the development will provide a new high-quality food store, alongside a drive-through coffee shop and three smaller retail units, providing additional shopping choice for the residents of Shelthorpe, Woodthorpe and Grange Park.

The spokesperson added that development of the site, which lies between the A6004 and Allendale Road, would see a multi-millionpound investment in the area and create around 100 new jobs, as well as further opportunities during construction and throughout the supply chain.

“After consulting with the residents of Loughborough, it is clear that there is an over- whelming demand for a new food store in this part of town with 80 per cent of all feedback received supporting our plans.

“With over 300 residents taking the time to submit their feedback we are delighted with the response from the local community. We have now submitted a full planning application to Charnwood Borough Council.”

Aldi says it would like to encourage anyone who would like to find out more details about its proposal for Loughborough to contact a member of the project team on the Freephone information line number, 0800 298 7040, or visit the project website, www.aldiconsultation.co.uk/loughborough
