Beacon 24 challenge on the horizon - are you up for it?

- By Liam Coleman Liam.coleman@trinitymirror.com

THE THIRD ANNUAL Beacon 24 hour endurance challenge is set to take place to help raise funds for Falcon Support Services.

Beacon24 will be hosted at the historic Beacon Hill Country Park starting at noon on Saturday, July 1 where runners will test their spirit against a six mile loop of the park, and competitors will be encouraged to run, walk, cycle or crawl the course as many times as they can or want over a 24 hour period.

The Beacon24 began in 2015 when two Loughborough men, Simon Hardy and Shaun Crowson, came up with the idea during their first fund-raising event, when they challenged themselves to run 92 miles from Norfolk to their home town of Loughborough in 23 hours and 30 minutes.

They raised £1,500 for the Falcon Centre.

Since then, Simon and Shaun have become regular fund-raisers for the charity and have raised over £5000 in the last three years with both men running the Beacon24 in 2015 and 2016.

Individuals or team entries are welcome, with individual tickets set at £20, and teams of up to eight at £40.

Founder Shaun Crowson told the Echo: “Last year it surpassed our expectations. We had great support over the years from the local community and from local running clubs Poplar and Sileby Running Club – it would be great to see the event grow again this year and increase the funds raised on last year. Last year we raised just over £2000, I would be immensely proud if the event could surpass this target as it really does make a difference to many vulnerable people assisted by Falcon Support Services”
