BARROW WI 68TH BIRTHDAY PARTY. On 17 May we celebrated Barrow’s 68th Birthday.

Betty pulled out all the stops and laid on a sumptious buffet. Mary made a beautiful birthday cake. However, before we could tuck in, we were introduced to our entertainer for the evening “Our Flossie”. She looked a bit imposing, wearing a mortar board and teacher’s gown.

“Flossie” has been doing different variations of her act for fifteen years. She takes you back during different decades with musical renditions of the time.

Her first song for her “pupils” was “A - Your Adorable”. You were expected to join in! With a blink of an eye, she stripped off her teachers outfit and revealed a “ragamuffin” costume underneath. Songs from “Oliver” followed.

The next costume change took us back to 40’s with “The Andrews Sisters”. All dressed in khaki, blonde wig with matching puppets/sisters, Flossie sang favourites, “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and “Don’t sit under the apple tree”. Two more transformations followed - wearing drapes, crepes and a DA wig, Flossie sang Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis hits. Finally “Dusty” emerged with “You don’t have to love me”.

Sadly, we had come to the end of Flossie’s act which we all thoroughly enjoyed. It certainly “lifted your spirits”. We finished the evening off with the buffet and drinks.

A great night! Next months meeting will be at Cons Club Function room at 7.30pm on 14 June 2017. We will be having a light hearted talk on “Clay”. Please come and join us.
