STOCKMAN’S COTTAGE

With its marvellous vaulted ceiling this village home has church spire views

-

THIS traditional house in Main Street, Normanton on Soar was originally two-up, twodown stockman’s cottage for Home Farm that dates back to circa 1898.

The agents for the sale, John German, say that it was joined on two sides by a cowshed and single storey loose boxes.

The working farm ceased in 1969 and over time the farm buildings were sold for conversion and renovation.

The current owners purchased the cowshed, boxes and farmyard and set about the task of renovation with the cowshed being transformed into the fabulous living kitchen we have today.

Next, knocking down and rebuilding, using salvaged material from the loose boxes to add character, they created two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. An entrance hall adjoins the new sitting room, an old part of the house. Under the concrete farmyard, they found the original cobbles and granite setts, and to add interest to the garden they were lifted and lovingly relayed as they are today.

Passing under an arched entrance you find yourself in the cobbled courtyard which offers secure parking and access to a detached garage. A feature canopied porch with central door entices you into a reception hallway with cobbled flooring.

The large sitting room with dual aspect windows and an attractive open fireplace. There are two further interchangeable reception rooms, ideal as a snug, office, playroom or hobby room.

The farmhouse kitchen is spacious, charming and well equipped with ample storage and a pillar box red gas Aga.

The vaulted ceiling has exposed timber roof trusses and a lovely repurposed stained glass skylight window. There is plenty of room in here for a banquet style table and family seating area.

French doors lead out to a sunny patio area, ideal for alfresco dining and family barbeques.

Take the stairs to the first floor where the galleried landing looks back down over the hallway. This attractive space has a feature brick wall and dual aspect windows.

There is a stunning master bedroom with a vaulted ceiling and exposed roof trusses, along with a guest bedroom and family bathroom m which has a huge walk-in shower area. ea.

On the other side of the house youu will find bedrooms three and four alongside a separate shower room.

Outside, as previously mentioned, the courtyard provides superb parking, it has a raised lawned area with planted borders and a secluded paved patio with brick-built barbeque and lovely views towards the village church spire.
