Bloom Festival at Fearon Hall this Saturday
GARDENING advice, experts, workshops and plenty of plants! A celebration of edible Loughborough is to take place this weekend.
This Saturday, June 17, Loughborough in Bloom Summer Festival 2017 will be at Fearon Hall, in Rectory Road, from 10am-2pm.
The event is to feature: a plant swap, arts and crafts, workshops, stalls, refreshments and the Utilise Social Cafe - an eatery that uses leftover food to create meals.
Residents, who are looking to create a ‘bloom-ing’ brilliant garden, are invited to seek advice and practical tips from experts and local gardeners.
The summer festival also gives people a chance to learn more about Loughborough’s Fruit Route and Garden Organics Matter Gardeners will be show attendees how to set up a garden composting system.
Charnwood Borough Council contractors, IdVerde, will also be leading a hanging basket workshop and Transition Loughborough will be running a garden tool repair and sharp- ening stall.
There will also be craft-based activities on offer for younger garden-enthusiasts.
In true flower show style, there will be competitions judged on the day.
Residents will have the chance to show off their skills in the Best Miniature Garden On a Plate and the Best Sunflower competitions.
Commenting on the event, Marion Smith, of Loughborough in Bloom, said: “I think people see the headlines ‘Loughborough in Bloom’ and think it’s just about flowers and it’s not, it’s a whole community contributing and people should come and see what’s going on.”
All are welcome at Loughborough in Bloom Summer Festival 2017.
The Rectory Museum will also be open during the event and an exhibition of work produced by Loughborough University Design School Post Graduate students - which looks at encouraging community use of the museum - will be on display.
