Musician Rosie is looking to help the community

-

A LOUGHBOROUGH musician, who often plays at a pub in town and is a regular at a Glastonbury-inspired festival, is looking forward to taking her skills into the community to help others.

Rosie Olivier-Heggs is hoping she can use her musical talents to work with different organisations in the area to support young and vulnerable people.

The 20-year-old has spent the last five years studying for a BA (Hons) in applied music at Loughborough College.

Rosie, who is getting ready to finish the course, says the college has given her a wealth of opportunities and she plans to work on projects it initially introduced her to.

Rosie said: “I had a placement which was part of my studies working with vulnerable children and adults, helping them develop their skills through music, and I spent time at a local school setting up music workshops.

“The academic side of things at Loughborough College has been brilliant – I am hoping for a first in my degree – and I have been given so many chances to build experience for my career.

“I am also really excited by the prospect of new work with the Loughborough Youth Development Project as well as returning to Soft Touch Arts, an award-winning Leicester charity.”

Rosie says staff at the college have been very supportive and there have been lots of opportunities to perform.

As well as playing to her peers, Rosie is also a regular performer at The Organ Grinder, in Wood Gate, Loughborough.

She often takes to the mic with her band, which consists of fellow students Robert Miller (guitar) and Daniel Borg (drums), and she is to play at Glastonbudget, the annual music festival in Wymeswold, for the third time.

Commenting on her future, Rosie said: “It will be sad to finally leave Loughborough College but I have been involved with so many valuable projects and I am really looking forward to continuing with that.”
