A FLAG raising ceremony, to mark the start of Armed Forces Week, took place outside of Loughborough Town Hall on Monday (June 19).

Armed Forces Day, which is in support of men and women of the armed forces community, including serving personnel, veterans, cadets and their families, falls on Saturday, June 24 but celebrations begin once flags are raised on across the country.

Mayor of Charnwood, Coun Pauline Ranson spoke at the Town Hall ceremony: “I have been delighted at the way the nation as a whole has demonstrated an increasingly tangible recognition and appreciation of our armed forces and what they do.

“I hope that this flag raising ceremony, and Armed Forces Day itself, will contribute as in previous years, to a wider understanding of the armed forces community, of the crucial role that it plays in our national life and the remarkable men and women, both currently serving and veteran, who are at its heart.”
