There mut must be a better doctor appointment system

-

WE CAME to Loughborough at the start of 1950. We were extremely fortunate to have Dr Broadbent as our GP.

The premises on Leicester Road were not ideal, but they were welcoming.

In his consulting room Dr Broadbent always sat with his back to the window so that light fell on your face (part of his clini- cal assessment). I have heard it said so often “they only look at their computers” rarely at you.

Even if you had to wait in the surgery you were always guaranteed a consultation.

Home visits were much more the norm then and if we were worried about one of our children he would say: “I’m only at the end of the phone, don’t hesitate to call me.”

At 88 years of age I hope I can carry on playing bridge, enjoy discussions and the company of friends, but the one thing I can’t, and won’t do, is ring at 8 in the morning to see who knows which doctor.

Even if you go to the surgery to make an appointment you are turned away and told to ring at 8 in the morning.

I know we cannot turn the clock back to the days of Dr Broadbent and others like Dr Dyson but surely there must be a better system which would encompass all. Ivy Strachan
