Invitation to the Sunrise City 5k

HALF past five in the morning - a time associated with nothing but slumber. However, on Friday, July 7, hundreds of people will be turning Leicester purple for the Smooth Sunrise City 5K.

A pathway to discoverin­g the city in a new light, this non-competitiv­e 5km run or walk is a celebratio­n of family, health and exercise, encouragin­g everyone, regardless of running ability, to hit the streets in the light of the morning.

Event director Nik Emmonds said: “We’re really looking forward to turning the streets of Leicester purple this July.

“We have a fantastic route for people to enjoy, taking in local landmarks such as the clock tower and cathedral, and a beautiful section along New Walk.

Nik added: “The Leicester event will be one of three events taking place across the East Midlands, and we are delighted to have Smooth radio as a title sponsor. Furthermor­e, Leicester City Council has been very helpful in aiding us organise this exciting new event.”

Phil Hudson, head of commercial at Smooth East Midlands said: “Smooth Radio East Midlands is delighted to be partnering with the Sunrise City 5K to raise money for Smooth’s charity Global’s Make Some Noise.

“It’s an amazing event and we’re very pleased to give our listeners the opportunit­y to see Leicester in a different light, running through the city as it wakes up!”

Sunrise City 5k costs £15 to enter, with all participan­ts receiving a medal and technical t-shirt on the day.

So whether you’re looking to dust off the cobwebs before work, taking your dog for a morning walk, or just fancy a stroll, organisers want to see you there wearing your purple tee in the sun or rain.

The event is organised by Nottingham-based company Perfect Motion, which delivered a similar event in the city last year.
