Boulter is in action

-

WOODHOUSE Eaves tennis star Katie Boulter was in action at the $100,000 Aegon Manchester Trophy last week after being awarded a wild card into the event.

Boulter beat Samantha Murray (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) in the opening round of the Ladies singles but was beaten (6-4, 6-2) in the second round by seventh seed Aleksandra Krunic.

She fared better in the doubles event, teaming up with Katie Swan, the pair beat number three seeds Maria Irigoyen and Paula Kania (6-1, 6-2) in the first round, before beating Samantha Murray and Danielle Lao (2-6, 7-5, 10-3) in the quarter finals to set up a semi final clash against An-Sophie Mestach and Magdalena Frech on Friday afternoon.

Boulter and her 18-year-old partner were forced to retire in the semi-final against Mestach and Frech.

Katie was in action again over the weekend though as she played two qualifiers for the Birmingham Classic - one of the main warm up events in the ladies game before Wimbledon.

The 20-year-old rising star won her first qualifier on Saturday against fellow countrywoman Jodie Ann Burrage, (6-1, 7-6, 6-4) but the task of defeating American Sachia Vickery proved a step too far, as the 22-year-old who has been ranked as high as 108 in the world was too strong, beating Boulter in straight sets (6-1, 7-6).
