Winning draw for Shepshed

-

SHEPSHED CC 1st Xl came away with a winning draw against Ratby as the red hot sun made for an interesting day for both bat and ball.

Shepshed decided to bat first and scored 205-8 with Andrew Gibson top scoring with a knock of 55, which was closely followed by Matt Taylor who scored 33.

The hot weather meant that it was always going to be hard for the bowlers to take easy wickets, but Shepshed bowlers stuck to the task and Ash Palmer took 3-35 and Adam Clapton claimed 4-31.

This built up for an exciting final few overs with Ratby finishing on 195-9 and with Shepshed unable to take the last wicket they picked up a winning draw, winning themselves 16 points.

Shepshed 2nds travelled to Long Whatton 1st Xl and batted first and had no luck at all as they were bowled out for 62 with Dan Dawson top scoring with 22.

Long Whatton did not hang around and knocked the 62 runs off finishing on 64 for 1.

Shepshed CC 3rd Xl hosted Grace Dieu Park CC 2nd XI and Shepshed scored 94 all out with Paul Oliver scoring 21 but it was a target that Grace Dieu knocked off with ease, scoring 95 without losing a wicket.

Shepshed CC 4th XI travelled away to Leicester Lions 1st Xl and decided to bat first due to the heat and knocks of 62 from Steve Chantrill and 69 from Mick Gibson gave Shepshed a decent score of 171-8.

Shepshed responded with some tight bowling from Sam King, as he took 2-30 and Jake Lister taking 2-51 but in the end Shepshed came a close second as the Lions got home on 172-5, and Shepshed picked up five points.
